~ Break ~

Just a short entry to let you all know I'm taking a break.

Troll bitch has been back and I am really tired of hearing how I make up my life.   Most recent comment relating to not having anything to say and I should just make up another story to get attention.

Tired of lame excuses for actions taken only to have things be turned around and put on me.

Tired of folks requesting tags long after they are expired only to turn around and send nasty emails when I let them know they are expired.  What part of 'Expires on' is not clear?

Tired of the snow and cold.

Just plain tired.

Might be gone a day, a week, a month......  I have no clue....  but after the most recent short breaks I didn't want ya to worry.  I'm ok....... just tired

~ Thursday Chatter ~

DsDesignsWinterHorse.gif picture by 55hockeyfan

Been away for a couple days, from JLand that is.  All is fine, but thank you for the concern.  I've been asked about regular entries, and frankly I haven't really had anything to say.   Same 'ole same 'ole here in the north.  Cold, dark skies, snow, and ice.  It's pretty boring after the first 5 entries, don't you think?  LOL

I am more then ready for spring!!  Like I said, it's been extremely cold here.  Today we had a high of 11 degrees.  Oh the joy!   Tuesday evening we got snow, but not a lot.  Just enough to coat my driveway and turn to ice.  You may or may not have noticed, but my house sits lower then the street.  My driveway is on an incline.  I wouldn't say hill, but it's enough to make it rough when it's covered in ice.  I live on a main street that has it's fair share of traffic.  So not only do I have to worry about getting my car up the incline I have to make sure there is no traffic coming so I can pull out and get on flat ground.  If not it's back down for another run at it.   Wednesday morning I go out and get in my car.  I'm the only one home and I make first attempt up the drive.  My tires spin and smoke fills the air.  The rancid smell of burning rubber about makes me sick.  I back down and try again.  No luck and no further then the first time.  One more time and I'm cursing.  There is no way in hell I can drive and push my car up the driveway.  I stop trying, take a deep breath and call my boss.  How stupid, 'I'm gonna be late I'm stuck in my driveway.'   Good gaaaaaawd I hate winter and my driveway!!!   I figure I will give it another shot and then call my son to come help.  He worked until 7 am, and that was the last thing I wanted to bother him with.  Put the car in first and try again.  GRRRRRRR  nothing.  Tires spin and I sit and think, damn it I will need new tires after this winter!!!  It was then I noticed my neighbor across the street heading over.  He was amazed, 'this is like a sheet of ice'  Yes, yes it is and I hate it.  In first, and we rock the car trying to get it up the driveway.  I felt horrible.  Just what he wanted to be doing at 8 am.   He's not a big guy, and probably a few years older then I.  Several attempts and about 10 minutes later I'm on the main road screaming out my window thank you.  I didn't want to stop as I was afraid of getting moving again or should I say not moving.   A fruit basket or something will arrive at his home this weekend as a thank you.  I would have never gotten out of the driveway without his help and there is nothing worse then calling off for such a lame reason.

See winter entries get boring!?!?!  Nothing else is really happening.  Work, work, and more work.  My Dad is doing good and getting stronger each day.  PT came to the house the other day and actually got him down the few steps and into the garage.  As cold as it is I know he had to be happy.  Cooped up in the hospital and the house for weeks would drive me nuts.  It won't be long and he will be bugging my mother to take him someplace, anyplace.  LOL

I hope everyone is doing good.  Let's all pool together and wish for spring, eh?  Sound like a plan?  LOL

          DsDesignsBernier.jpg picture by 55hockeyfan

Tuesday at 3 was the trade deadline in the NHL.  Buffalo had been trying to reach a deal with Brian Campbell to keep him in Buffalo, as his contract was up in July and as of the 1st he would be an unrestricted free agent.  As much as I hate being the incubator for the NHL, I also hate the fact that the players always want more.  More years, more money.  In hockey the contracts and money is guaranteed, not something you see in baseball or football.  I hate the 'small market team' card, but it is what it is.  We do not have the corporations or TV dollars that allow the team to just spend wildly.  It is a business and as much as you hate to see players go you have to look at the big picture.  With that said, a contract could not be done.  It's being reported that Campbell wanted 7 years at 7 million a year.  We have other players to sign, our goalie for one.  How on earth can you spend that much on one player and keep the team in tact.  Before the day was done on Tuesday, Brian was traded to San Jose for young gun Steve Bernier.  I will be honest in saying I only heard his name mentioned once or twice and knew little about him.  He's a big boy and has soft hands in front of the net.  Something we could use even if it leaves are defense a bit suspect.

Last night was his first game as a Sabre.  He openly admitted being nervous and excited.  The fans all had their eyes on him to see how and what.  It didn't take him long to win the hearts of all.  Four minutes in he scored his first goal as a Sabre.  Ten minutes later, another.  He had an assist and stood up for his new teammates when the opposing team lost their cool.  Could be beginners luck, but then they said that when Danny Briere came here from Phoenix several years back.  With any luck at all this 22 year old will play with the intensity he showed last night and be a staple here in Buffalo.   For now... they just need to pull wins together to get in the top 8 of the Eastern Conference.

~ Four Games in Six Nights ~

The boys had their 4th game in 6 nights today.  Aggravates the hell out of me that in the beginning of the season they spread games out and they have 6-7 day breaks.  Now they aren't as lucky.  They came out looking a little flat, legs looked tired, but they hung in there.  Both goalies were tremendous.  I'm proud to say Miller had the shutout and the boys won 1-0.  Close game and nothing short of a nail biter.

I saw this a bit earlier but didn't want to post it in fear that it would jinx the boys.  I am so sorry to the Toronto fans, but I really thought this was kind of funny.

Rest boys it's back to work on Saturday in NY :)

~ Sicko ~

                                   DsDesignsSicko.gif picture by 55hockeyfan

I want to say thanks to all those that checked on me in my short, but recent absence.   So many have become accustomed to me posting at least once a night, that when I didn't it caused some worry.  I'm sorry but I do appreciate the wonderful emails I did get.  Near the end of last week I started feeling a bit cruddy.  Nothing I could really put my finger on, but cruddy just the same.  Monday my tummy just didn't feel real good, and by the time I got home from work I was just exhausted.  Getting on the computer for any length of time was just not in my blood.  Now you know I'm sick if I don't even play in PSP or with graphics.   Last night was more of the same.  Hot, cold, hot, cold.  I was in bed by 9:30.  LOL  Would have been sooner but my boys were playing.  I sprawled on the couch under a few blankets and tried to stay focused on the game.  It was an easy game to watch.  They played great and beat the number one team in East, the Ottawa Senators, 5-1.  In winning, they bounced into 8th place and are now in a playoff spot.  They still need to climb higher :)  There is lots of hockey left to be played, so that can't be satisfied with where they are.  To many good teams close by.   They've got 16 points out of a possible 18 points in the last 9 games.  Can you say hot?  I hope they carry it into tonight.  They play the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Back to being sick...   I woke up early this morning soaking wet.  My fever broke.  I felt a bit dizzy and very weak.  I called off work and spent the day on the couch or in bed.  Now I feel a bit better but not 100%.  If this doesn't go away soon I will be making a Dr. appointment.   Thing is so many at work come in sick, with fevers, trying be martyrs.  To them, I say thank you!  Grrrrr  Lets not even get into the freaking weather!!!

So, anyone curious as to where the tax dollar has been going?  Can you say MLB?  WTF!?!  All the money spent to see who is lying over the whole steroid issue.  I can think of a few better ways to spend money.  In my eyes, they all lied.  They tried to cover it up, all of them, right up to the commissioner.  It's a joke, and no punishment will be handed down so why bother?

Ok, off to eat some dinner and watch the boys.  I had well over 350 alerts, and no offense but there is no way I can make it up so I will start from scratch.  Thanks for understanding.

Hugs

~ Update ~

:::sigh of relief:::  Richard Zednik is in a local hospital.  In the locker room they were able to stop the bleeding enough to transport him.  He had emergency surgery and it is said he is resting comfortably and in stable condition.  Two members of the Florida Panthers management stayed with him as the team went home.  They also chartered a flight so his wife could be here with him.  Hoping for a speedy recovery.

Weather... it is still freakin cold.  It is a balmy 6 degrees with a wind chill of -21.  Schools closing left and right.  Wish work was too!

Have a great day and thanks for the good thoughts sent Zednik's way.

~ It's Damn Cold ~

I want to start by saying thank you for all the nice words, hugs, and support for my entry the other day.  I appreciate all of you!  *hugs*

I woke up this morning to some blinding snow and wind that rattled the windows.  The snow stopped, but the wind did not.  It continued to blow and grab any loose snow flakes and throw them around.  At points it looked like it was still snowing.  BRRRRRRRR  All this and I had to go out!  The thought sent shivers up my spine, but I really needed to grab some groceries.  I know with all the commotion of my Dad falling last week I never did say my sister's surgery was postponed until this Friday.  She is doing fine, but the pain meds are just making her sleep.  I wanted to get her a few things to make life easy while I'm at work.  Right wrist, right handed.  They told her nothing heavier then a coffee cup.  LOL good thing too as she'd go nuts, and her left hand is not all that coordinated.

After shopping I did my son's taxes.  Whuu huuuuu he's excited.  He and his girlfriend are planning a trip to New York City and that will surely help.  He'll stop by tomorrow so we can finish them up and get them out.  I will do mine tomorrow night.  I'm hoping for at least a small refund.  Would be nice.  LOL   I want to get some additional lenses for my camera.

I also did some emails to the girls in my niece's wedding.  Though it's not until October her shower will be in August.  We need to get on the ball.  She's planning a brunch and hoping it will be over by 2ish.  Yeah, smart girl!!  I think since of the girls will be in town the weekend of Feb 22, we will do lunch and try to narrow things down and get started.   I did the tag below for her.  ::grin::  She has a wedding profile or something or other on the net and it allows her to share some things, but also gives her a private side so they can do a check list.   She adored the tag which made me extremely happy.

Speaking of tags.  Tricia started up again and has opened her own tag journal.  Her work is great and she offers some very nice things.  Stop by and say hello, won't you?

K, gonna keep this short ... lol sorta.   Thanks again!

~ It's Not All About Winning ~

A very scary thing happened at the Sabres game this evening.  It brought back horrible memories of a similar incident with our goalie, Clint Malarchuk, that happened years ago.  He is alive and well today Thank God.

Midway through the third period, Olli Jokinen of the Florida Panthers was checked and was on his way to the ice when is leg went awkwardly up in the air catching his teammate Richard Zednik in the neck.  He was cut, and bled profusely.  He rushed to the bench as medical staff and trainers came to his aide.

After several minutes it was announced he was in stable condition and on his way to the hospital.  The fans gave him a standing ovation, and it was decided the game would continue.  That, after they cleaned the ice.

For those who want to watch here is the link.  Zednik  Fair warning there is lots of blood on the ice, and why I didn't insert in my entry.

Currently Zednik is in surgery in a Buffalo Hospital.  Please say a prayer and good wishes that he will come of this ok.   Thanks

Ste had the balls to tag me after being absent from JLand for a bit.  LMAO  Love ya babes :)~

So, here's what you do.  You list nine things about yourself that people might think are somewhat odd and then you tag 3 people to do the same. I know I'm odd, but damn 9 things???

1. I have to have the TV in my room on when I go to bed.  I don't watch, but I have tohave the light and sound to fall asleep.

2. I don't cut my nails.  Now they don't get curly long, but I let them grow and only cut them after they start to break (generally 3 or more)

3. Goes along with number 2, I don't wear nail polish.

4.  I won't wear socks around the house.  If they have them on because I was out that is the first thing done when I get home.  Even in the dead of winter.

5. When watching my boys, if the announcers say some thing good I will knock on wood.

6. I'm a jock at heart.  But you all knew that didn't you?

7. When I'm deep in thought I bite lip or twirl my hair.

8. I like lots of lights.  Makes me think it's sunny outside.  LOL

9. I wear 5 rings.  Two thumb rings(one on each thumb), one on the middle finger of my right hand and one on my ring finger on my right hand.  They always have to be put on and taken off in order.  Taking off, thumb ring on my left hand, then thumb, middle and ring and right.  Putting them back on is opposite.  Ring, middle, thumb on right, then thumb on left.

I'm not going to tag anyone... grab 'em if you'd like :)

hugs

~ I'm Ready ~

    DsDesignsMissYou.gif picture by 55hockeyfan

This entry is long overdue, but I think I'm ready.  I will give fair warning it will most likely be long.  It's going to be hard for me, and it will definitely cause me lots of tears.  It's not so I remember, I will never ever forget.  I just think for healing purposes I need to do this.

It's Wednesday morning and I'm off.  It was planned the week earlier that I would take the day off and spend the day at the house with my sister.  So much had changed so quickly.  Being in and out of the hospital with various issues.  She finally came home on Friday the week before.  I stopped after work for a visit.  She was in pain, and very 'groggy'.  I could see in her eyes things weren't right.  I helped get her situated in her chair.  'Pat, are you cold?', her reply was no but she felt cold.  I covered her with her quilt and it was then her eyes started to dance a bit with worry.  She tried to get up.  I assured her that we had taken care of the request she had made weeks earlier.  In one of our talks, when she was with it, she had asked to get quilted tree skirts for her girls.  My Aunt had given all of us one years and years ago and they mean the world to us.  She wanted her girls to have one for themselves, from her.  My sister in law had done the running and found the perfect ones.  They'd be ready that Monday.  She settled down, you could see with her breath and sigh that a weight had been lifted from her troubled mind.  She relaxed.

I took my rings off and sat on the floor in front of her.  I grabbed the lotion and began rubbing her feet and lower legs.  Something we'd all done so many times before.   I hate feet, but this was my sister.  This was something I could do to make her feel better even if only for a few minutes.  Since her liver was basically failing everything wasbacking up.  She was swollen and her skin was dry.  Her feet had gotten so large the skin was taught.  It was painful for her and the fear was it would dry out and crack causing that much more discomfort.

She hadn't been eating much and now was no different.  Her mouth felt dry everything tasted like salt.  Not appetizing to anyone, but when you're sick who cares.  She was stubborn and fed herself, and tried with all her might to get at least a few bites in.

Saturday was the same.  I had stopped earlier in the day.  As visitors came I left.  I didn't want to over excite her.  She tried so hard to follow the conversation but she was getting things mixed up.  We talked about things in our past both funny and sad.  We remembered and when she did she lit up like a spot light.

That evening things took a turn.  My brother in law called my sister, a RN, for help.  She went over and did the best she could.  They called the Hospice nurse and got additional direction.  On Sunday Hospice came and it was decided it was time to go to the facility.  We didn't have the strength to move her as she needed to be moved, we didn't have the know how to do some of the additional things that needed to be done.  That in itself broke my heart.  I wished..  I hoped... but there was really no choice.  I ached for my brother in law and her children.  We needed to do what was best for her, not us.  We all wanted so bad to be able to take care of her.  It was not possible.

Pat was moved on Monday.  She was comfy in bed when I got there after work.  I bent over her, gave her a kiss.  Let her know it was me and told her I loved her.  She did open her eyes, and looked but I have no idea if she knew.  Her eyes were dark and almost looked empty.  Off in a distant land.  Everyone was there.  Support and hugs given.  Tuesday more of the same.

Now it's Wednesday morning.  I arrive at the center, instead of her house, with coffee in hand.  In the hall I run into my brother in law, coffee in hand.  'Who beat me to it?'  His eyes were sad.  'I have to warn you.  The girls are here, we called them last night.  She is breathing with a rattle.'  I'd heard of that before, but never had experienced it first hand.  It is not a sound you'll ever forget.  I got to the room and again bent over her, told it was me, told her I loved her and kissed her forehead.  For the first time she did not open her eyes.  She did not try to look, turn to the sound.  Nothing.  I hugged the girls.  Probably harder and longer then I have ever done.  So freaking strong they were.  We talked and reminisced.  We laughed, we cried.  The girls left to talk to a councilor.  My brother in law had stated they all had time with Pat privately, said their piece.  They had been told, as we all have heard, sometimes folks hang on for something.  Some one to visit, something to be said, sometimes they wait until no one is there.

When the girls got back we decided to sit outside Pat's room.  Let her have some time alone.  We were right outside the door, and could hear her.  We did more talking and then realized it was noon.  They were hungry.  I offered to run and grab lunch.  We decided on chicken from a local chicken place.  The girls decided they wanted to go too.  They went in and let Pat know, grabbed their coats.  I went in.  Got my coat, and leaned over her.  Told her what I was doing, let her know the girls would be with me, said I love you, and gave her a kiss.  We left.

We really weren't gone that long.  A few calls were made, and then I got the call from my brother in law to get the girls back.  I told the cashier I'd be back for lunch, since it wasordered and paid for.  She said it would done in a minute.  'I don't have a minute, I will be back'.  Off we went.  We all knew, but as I pulled on to the road to get back to the center, I couldn't help but say to the girls.  'Good thing your Mom helped me learn to drive.'  We laughed through our tears.  I was driving safely, but like a maniac.    I dropped the girls at the door and I went to park.  I got in and my other niece was in tears in the foyer.  'Did they get back in time?'  She cried harder.  My heart ached, but I knew that is exactly what my sister wanted.  She wanted to let go when her girls were not there.  It was only after that I learned my brother in law whispered to her that he'd be right back and he walked out and wasn't in the room either.  She planned it to a 't'.  You might remember I said that back when I let you all know.   She wanted to be buried on a Saturday.  Waked two days.  No inconveniencing anyone else, or as little as possible.

The days that followed were hell.  I have no other way to put it.  Though the crowds, and I do mean crowds that came to pay their respects were unbelievable, I ached.  I hated this had happened.   My faith wavered several times.  Things are so unfair when such pain and heartache is bestowed on good people.  I don't mean me, I mean her, her husband, her daughters.   They played by the book and did things right!

Not a day goes by that I don't think of my sister.  Not a day passes that I don't want to pick up the phone.  Tell her something, give her news, yes and bitch about something insignificant in the big picture.  I miss her.   I miss her goodness, her smile, her laugh.  She had a calmness about her that can be matched by no other.  She was strong and good.  She fought a good hard fight and lost.  It sucks!

I've remembered each of my promises and have kept to them.  I've triedto learn from her goodness and be a bit kinder each day.  Love more, have less anger.  Smile more and put the tears away.  Some days are good, others not so much.  I will never forget her, nor her special way.  I will cherish our time and my memories.   I find myself talking to her at times.  I've left the candle going.  I've told her things, but mostly that I will love her forever.  I will tell her regularly her girls are gems and are so special to so many.

Thanks for reading if you made it this far....  sorry for the length.  I could have been longer .........

Boys played the New Jersey Devils tonight.  First home game after a very long road trip.  They'd been playing fairly well fighting their way back into the play off race.  Getting 9 out of a possible 10 points.   The Devils play a very defensive game, called the trap.  They clog up the zone making it difficult to get into their end.   Their goalie, Marty Brodeur is one of the best in the league and is like having another defenseman back there.  The game was good, but I was disappointed we gave up a 2 goal lead and ended up going into OT.  I prayed we would score as our luck in the shootouts has been horrible.   Well, we didn't.  We were going to a shootout and the last three games against the Devils we lost at that point.  Sure a point would be good, but I wanted 2.  The boys NEEDED 2!   They announce the players for the shootout and I thought I heard incorrectly.  We were going to use Henrik Tallinder.   Hank is a great defenseman, but he is not a goal scorer.  I thought the coach had lost his mind.  Why he was not using his scoring guns had me confused.   Stafford went first for Buffalo and beat Brodeur.  Yeah baby!!!  Miller stopped the shot by Parise, well... Parise shot wide.  Then it was Tallinder's turn.  I watched and was amazed.  He undressed Brodeur!!  Scored in the shootout and I wondered where he learned his move.  Gionta took his shot for the Devils, he knew he had to score to keep them in it.  Miller made a spectacular save and it was over.  We broke the shootout jinx.  Earned two more points and  are 2 points out of the playoffs.  On Friday we play the team that is ahead of us, the Boston Bruins.  Welcome home boys...  lets get 2 more points!

~ Some Commercials ~

I want to first say thank you for the several more 'nice' awards.  I truly appreciate it.  I guess there are a few folks that think I'm nice :)     Also Dad is doing good.  He took a few steps today.  Not sure when he will be going to the rehab center but that is his next stop.  Thanks again for the good thoughts and prayers.

Was over at YouTube and thought I'd grab a few commercials from the Super Bowl...  just in case you missed them.   LOL  These are a few I thought were pretty good.
