~ It's Not All About Winning ~

A very scary thing happened at the Sabres game this evening.  It brought back horrible memories of a similar incident with our goalie, Clint Malarchuk, that happened years ago.  He is alive and well today Thank God.

Midway through the third period, Olli Jokinen of the Florida Panthers was checked and was on his way to the ice when is leg went awkwardly up in the air catching his teammate Richard Zednik in the neck.  He was cut, and bled profusely.  He rushed to the bench as medical staff and trainers came to his aide.

After several minutes it was announced he was in stable condition and on his way to the hospital.  The fans gave him a standing ovation, and it was decided the game would continue.  That, after they cleaned the ice.

For those who want to watch here is the link.  Zednik  Fair warning there is lots of blood on the ice, and why I didn't insert in my entry.

Currently Zednik is in surgery in a Buffalo Hospital.  Please say a prayer and good wishes that he will come of this ok.   Thanks

Amazing Donna ....thoughts and prayers for this player

... I have played hockey and fortunately, I was never on ice or seen an injury like that in person ... scary stuff, especially when you think how much you take for granted that it won't happen to you ...

... there also seems to be a different kind of kinship with hockey players ... not that football players don't have it, but certainly not to the same extent as hockey players ... the sacrifice and effort it takes to be a hockey player is a humbling experience, where as football players are celebrated in an outsized way ... I don't 'feel' the same when I hear a malady that befell a football player like I do when it happens to a hockey player ...

... no, I didn't watch it ... I am sure I will have to turn away on SportCenter when it is on ...

This sounds so scary I can't go to the link.... I have to pray everytime my boys are playing sports or my daughter.... so many things can happen.  Of course I don't want to hold them back, but it is hard being a mom just the same.  I hope his mom was not watching.
