~ Thursday Chatter ~

DsDesignsWinterHorse.gif picture by 55hockeyfan

Been away for a couple days, from JLand that is.  All is fine, but thank you for the concern.  I've been asked about regular entries, and frankly I haven't really had anything to say.   Same 'ole same 'ole here in the north.  Cold, dark skies, snow, and ice.  It's pretty boring after the first 5 entries, don't you think?  LOL

I am more then ready for spring!!  Like I said, it's been extremely cold here.  Today we had a high of 11 degrees.  Oh the joy!   Tuesday evening we got snow, but not a lot.  Just enough to coat my driveway and turn to ice.  You may or may not have noticed, but my house sits lower then the street.  My driveway is on an incline.  I wouldn't say hill, but it's enough to make it rough when it's covered in ice.  I live on a main street that has it's fair share of traffic.  So not only do I have to worry about getting my car up the incline I have to make sure there is no traffic coming so I can pull out and get on flat ground.  If not it's back down for another run at it.   Wednesday morning I go out and get in my car.  I'm the only one home and I make first attempt up the drive.  My tires spin and smoke fills the air.  The rancid smell of burning rubber about makes me sick.  I back down and try again.  No luck and no further then the first time.  One more time and I'm cursing.  There is no way in hell I can drive and push my car up the driveway.  I stop trying, take a deep breath and call my boss.  How stupid, 'I'm gonna be late I'm stuck in my driveway.'   Good gaaaaaawd I hate winter and my driveway!!!   I figure I will give it another shot and then call my son to come help.  He worked until 7 am, and that was the last thing I wanted to bother him with.  Put the car in first and try again.  GRRRRRRR  nothing.  Tires spin and I sit and think, damn it I will need new tires after this winter!!!  It was then I noticed my neighbor across the street heading over.  He was amazed, 'this is like a sheet of ice'  Yes, yes it is and I hate it.  In first, and we rock the car trying to get it up the driveway.  I felt horrible.  Just what he wanted to be doing at 8 am.   He's not a big guy, and probably a few years older then I.  Several attempts and about 10 minutes later I'm on the main road screaming out my window thank you.  I didn't want to stop as I was afraid of getting moving again or should I say not moving.   A fruit basket or something will arrive at his home this weekend as a thank you.  I would have never gotten out of the driveway without his help and there is nothing worse then calling off for such a lame reason.

See winter entries get boring!?!?!  Nothing else is really happening.  Work, work, and more work.  My Dad is doing good and getting stronger each day.  PT came to the house the other day and actually got him down the few steps and into the garage.  As cold as it is I know he had to be happy.  Cooped up in the hospital and the house for weeks would drive me nuts.  It won't be long and he will be bugging my mother to take him someplace, anyplace.  LOL

I hope everyone is doing good.  Let's all pool together and wish for spring, eh?  Sound like a plan?  LOL

Hugs

~d

You sound like I feel about having nothing to say...that's why I started telling about my past (cause my present is really boring).  I enjoyed hearing about your driveway experience and it helps me remember why I live in the south (even though the dusting of snow we got the other day was a thrill).  Love the graphic.

Wish for Spring sounds good to me! I have heard so many people saying the same thing-cant wait for Spring to arrive--been a long winter--and u got it cold there. I never get bored reading your entries--have to laugh about ur drive way cuz my car sits low and while everyone else is driving, I too had more than my share getting into the driveway from a main road- my car was too light and surprised when i finally made it up that I didnt end up in the house cuz I get so mad and do all the things ur not suppossed to.....so now I try just not to drive in it unless I have to...and so glad Im not working to have to drive in it-so I feel for you. That was such a nice gesture your neighbor did as well as u going to send him a fruit basket---sure wish more were friendly to their neighbors and helping each other. Well better get off before I write a book and keep ya up all night lol

Love love love this tag--so pretty--love the snow and the horse and like it just as it is, been sitting here just daydreaming and staring at it---so pretty-its like your right there with the horse.

Could I have one with Carolina or Carolyn on it-whichever is easier---and no hurry...hey good news Donna, tomorrow is Friday--have a great day at work-hugs and niters-Carolina

Well, there wasn't ANYthng boring about the beginning of your day! After living in Chicago area for 35 years, I know, and still vividly recall your exact feelngs of exasperation! We've been in FL for 7 yrs now & I still breathe a sigh of relief knowing that we won't be stuck in the driveway! LOL  I'm still trying to figure out, though, why I'm running around the house with my "blankie" when it's only in the 40s!?!?   Move to Florida ... become a "wuss"!  LOL  I'm praying as hard as I can for some nice spring weather for our Northern friends.  Hang in there ... pretty soon we'll all be yelling "Darn it's hot!"  I'm so happy to hear of your father's progress!

Peace~
Linda

I don't live in the snow...so I don't find these entries boring at all! Talk about the snow all you want. It's a different world for me.
Hope tomorrow morning is easier for you.

Your entries, winter or whatever aren't boring.  I love the smell of burning rubber, especially at the race track.  Hope you have a happy tomorrow. : )

What a time you had getting out of your driveway. That certainly calls for a fruit basket. That graphic is pretty but had a lonely look. Like maybe the horse is lost and all along and cold. Spring sounds like a good plan to me. Helen

Donna
I didn't find this entry boring at all.  Sorry you are in the winter blahs, I'll be rooting for an early spring for you.  That was nice of your neighbor to help you with the car.  I think the basket of fruit would be a nice thing to do for him.  Great news that the PT is making progress with your Dad.  I'm glad to hear he is doing well.  Take care!

... too bad I wasn't jogging down your street ... I would have gotten you on the road ..!  And I agree with you about the season ... I thought Februrary was the SHORTEST month ..!

... love the picture of the horse ... would you mind sending it to me if it isn't too much trouble ..?

i wonder if you are in a writing funk....i love anything you write and miss you daily when you do not write. I didnt think this entry was boring at all.....that is a GOOD neighbor!! I am so glad he came and helped you. It really means alot to have people out and about who will make the effort for others. I am too very damn sick of this winter. It has been the worst of my life. We both need some hot sun!
LOVE, lisa

Sheet ice is horrendous, Donna. I'd call that a valid reason for not being able to come to work. Well done to your neighbour for helping out. Suggestion: invest in a bag of roadsalt?

Spring is beginning to show its colourful head over here in the English Lakes.
I have some little Narcissi and crocus smiling away at me each day now.  The Cherry trees are beginning to burst into bloom too.   My heart is racing at the thought of all the rest of the colourful flowers due out soon.
What a time you had getting out your drive!  I remember getting stuck in deep snow on a high fell road once, many years ago now.  My husband had to take his jacket off to help with traction under the wheels.  Luckily we had a shovel with us too.  Ice is another matter though.

Glad you made it to work safely.  And that your Dad is on the mend.  <smile>

Sorry about your troll   That can be so wearing.  Doc and I have been trying to persuade my troll's latest infuriated former friend not to murder him.  (He lives here but has gone on my journal and ripped me)  He even went out and bought a gun, only thank god it was a toy.  A toy!!! What next.  Well, someetimes everyone needs a rest.  In the meantime this graphic so spoke to me.  I will let you know when I post it.  I feel a poem forming from the emotion it evokes in me.  Horses!  My saviors, my best friends of my youth.   Gerry

I think we are all 'old, tired and boring' during the winter doldrums.  But soon it will be mud season and we'll have lots of mud to write about! LOL  Keep smiling D ... it's almost over -- winter that is.
I think, too, if I may be so forward, that you still grieve the loss of your sister and you just aren't always going to feel up to writing happy shit just to please other people.  And you shouldn't.

Lucky your neighbour was there to help. Hope all is well with your family, playing catch up again lol.
