~ OMG.. How freaking cool! ~

samples.jpg picture by 55hockeyfan

I actually started this entry last night, but then a thunderstorm came rumbling in.  The cable went off and on so I figured it best to just shut down.

Ok, so this entry probably won't be of interest to most, but I had to share.  You know I use a lot of scrap kits for my tags, sure some are free.  Some I buy to use for tags and personal pictures.   I stumbled upon a couple PSP scripts.  The one that I really wanted was to take a ribbon and fold it.  I'm not thrilled with the auto drop shadow, but I can work on that.  I actually made the ribbon first, then folded it.  The stitch is made from an existing ribbon or one that is made.  I just thought the ladybug and dragonfly were cute.  I love the fact that I can create accents to match the colors I have.  Colorizing in PSP is good, but this will match exactly since I select the color... not just get it close.  I can just draw from a color in the tube or whatever.   I found the scripts at Studio Style Designs.  You'll have to register and log in on a browser other then AOL, they don't play nice together.   Scripts are rather easy to use if you've never tried them.  You download them into the PSP script folder and then while in PSP you select run.  It will walk you through what you have to do :)

So while I did laundry yesterday, instead catching up on tags I played.  LOL   I will get the tags out soon, promise.  Hope everyone had a great weekend and I wish you a good Monday.

~ I Went ~

                             DsDesignsTurkey.jpg picture by 55hockeyfan

Yeap, I went.   I left my house about 2:30 to take the 30 minute ride to the community college.  The rain had stopped at my house, but I passed through a few sprinkles on my ride.  Nothing major and the sky looked pretty good in the direction I was going.   The balloons were to lift off about 6, and since there wasn't much else there I wanted to see, I figured I'd get there and walk around a bit first.  I mean, since I was going.   There were quite a few folks there, no doubt locals.   Tent after tent lined the walk ways.  Or did the tents define the walks?   Anyway, crafts, jewelry, knick knacks, and local merchants.   A combination between a craft show and flea market.  It was interesting, but nothing yelled out at me to purchase it.   Every few tents there was a little food trailer set up.  Sugar waffles, hot dogs, pizza, some of the local Amish making homemade ice cream.  You name it, it was there.  Just like you'd see at a fair.   I had better plans for dinner.  LOL   My sister had called and invited me back to her house for streak and crab legs.  :)

DsDesignsClowns.jpg picture by 55hockeyfan

I walked around a bit and then heard rumblings of the parade.  Ok, that sounded cool.   LMAO!!   Uhhh huh...  so I headed over to the path.  I passed a petty 'farm' on the way.  Most animals were behind a fence and to be honest they stunk!   Hay and grass stuck in their fur, they looked matted, and I was not impressed at all.  I'm sure they were well kept but they didn't look like it.  I wonder if PITA has ever looked into them?   The onlycreature not behind the fence was the turkey.  He strutted his stuff and walked among the nearby crowd.   He constantly sucked in air to make his chest puff out, and what a weird sound that is!  Ever hear it?

It wasn't long before the roadway was lined with people.  Sitting in bleachers provided, on blankets, or in their own chairs.   The parade began around then bend and I found a spot near the end (or beginning ) so I could be one of the first and not have to worry about strangers in the shots.   I thought for sure there'd be at least a couple floats to get pictures of.   So off they come...  well...   I wish I had ear plugs.  I swear every fire dept in a 35 mile radius was there with multiple trucks and/or vehicles.   You know each one had to set off the sirens, blow their horns.  Make some noise.   Not one was driven by some young hunk.  They were all old, I mean really old.  Like the brought back the retired guys to drive.  The passengers were mostly woman or children throwing candy out the windows as they passed by.  Hmmmm  where were those calendar guys?????   Some marchers went by, but you could tell they didn't care.  No straight backs or crisp steps.  Instead they almost danced to the 'left, left, left, right, left' that was hollered out.  Politicians looking for votes.  And of course some clowns, and a silly band.  A long parade of virtually nothing.   The locals seemed to love it, and the kids had bags of candy when it was over.

DsDesignsFlyaKite.gif picture by 55hockeyfan

When the parade was over everyone headed towards the open field.  On the way I found many kites in the air.  I decided to grab a couple shots.  They were very pretty in the sky and bounced and spun around.  As I stood there, I started thinking about how windy it really was.  The breeze was a savior in the heat and humidity.  The longer I stood there the more I knew the balloons would not go up.  Conditions have to be perfect, and winds over 10 MPH prove to be unsafe with the flame.  Not one was pulled out into the field.  Nothing looked to be happening.  It was about 6:15 or so when the crowd started to break up.  Leaving with many a grumble.   I've been a bit sarcastic in my entry here, but it was ok.  I was outside and enjoying..........   Yeap, I was disappointed.  Extremely!!   I went to see hot air balloons and I got turkeys, clowns, and kites.

~ What is It? ~

DsDesignsWhatisIt.jpg picture by 55hockeyfan

So last weekend, we sat in the backyard looking out into lake Erie.  Off in the distance something was bobbing in the water.  Several of us squinted and grabbed glasses to see what it was.  A duck?  A seagull eating dinner?  Garbage thrown over the side of a boat?  I won't get into all the guesses, but I decided, to hell with that.  I grabbed my camera with the zoom and zeroed in on it.   I laughed.  'What is it?  What's so funny?' were the cries in the background.  I was tempted to not tell them.  Instead I took the picture and let everyone see for themselves.   Heavy sighs as they walked away.  They wanted it to be what they imagined.

What is it?  OMG!  I can't believe so many had a hard time guessing.... or guessed wrong.   LMAO  I would never give up my boys or hockey.  Not EVER!  My life and it's schedule revolves around their games 99.9% of the time during the season.   The day my niece gets married there is a game.  You can bet your ass at 9 pm I will be at the bar watching the game.  You can bet your ass others will be there too.   They may call Detroit Hockeytown, but like the Dallas Cowboys anointing themselves 'America's Team', it's a lie!!   LOL  Mark...don't argue the point, you won't win with me :)~

What is it?  It's the last freakin weekend in July.  Can you believe it?  Where the hell did the time go?  I feel like my summer was pretty full, but I also feel it was full of rain too.  Hot hot days, then a few days of wild rain.  We had hail here the other night.  Wild storms blowing through.  WTH!?!  August better be a good month!   And summer better run into October!!!  It's raining here again.  I am hoping to get to Niagara Community College later today.  They are having a hot air balloon festival.  The first set of balloons went up at like 6 am.  OUCH!  No way I was getting up early for that show, but they go again at 6 pm.  I am hoping the rain will stop (they say it will) and I get up there.  Keep your fingers crossed.

What is it?   It's time for me to get my butt in gear and get off this damn box and accomplish something today.   Have a great day everyone!

~ One Doobie ~

DsDesignsOneDoobie.jpg picture by 55hockeyfan

As in Doobie Brother... what did you think?  LOL  Last night we went to a free concert at Artpark.  Every Tuesday and Wednesday they hold free concerts in the amphitheater.  The amphitheater looks over the Niagara Gorge several mile past the actual Falls.  Last night the featured artist was Michael McDonald.  I've always loved his voice and last night was no different.  The concert was awesome.  On the drive out there we drove thru some heavy rains and really thought that we'd be getting wet, but luck was on our side.  It sprinkled for a few minutes and then it cleared up.

Tonite I'm dragging my ass and I'm off to bed... but I wanted to do a quick entry.  Hope everyone is doing well.

~ Answer Honestly ~

First a little bit of an explanation.  Molson Canadian (pretty neat site by the way) is a beer.  LOL  It is pretty popular around here and several family members drink it.  It's ok...  it's a bit heavy for me but I find any full flavor beer is.  Always fills me up.  It's no fun drinking if you are full to the brim :)  LMAO  So anyway, they regularly do some fun things on the labels.  Silly sayings, pick-up lines, and most recently answer honestly.

                               Molsonlabel.jpg picture by 55hockeyfan

Recently while together with family members this label appeared on a bottle.  We all laughed our asses off.  So now, you took the time to stop in to see what this was all about,  you're here, you've read, now leave a comment...  you all know me... what do you think my answer is?   Keep in mind I'm divorced, not dead!   Ohhhhhhhhhhh and I'm also a huge hockey fan.  'Cmon...  do it....  guess...... LMAO

~ Soothing ~

With the work week starting I thought I'd give you a bit of my weekend to start yours....   the lake was a bit rough... waves crashing on the shore... the breeze... the peaceful setting...  soothing.   Take a deep breath... maybe you can smell the fresh air....  relax...  enjoy.   Have a good Monday!

~ What!?!?! It's July 20th ~

DsDesignsMillerTime7-20-08.jpg picture by 55hockeyfan

Yeap, it is.  Who said hockey is just a winter sport?   LMAO  Lots of things happen in the off season.  Unrestricted agency starts on July 1 and General Managers go into some kind of morph mode and over pay players to get them on their team.  The lock out was to get a collective bargaining agreement that would keep salaries in check and impose a salary cap.   An entire year without hockey only to see the cap continue to rise and the salaries follow suit.  Bidding wars, the highest bidder gets the player.  It matters not what happens to the rest of the team..............   or the rest of the league at this point.  The cap is right around $56 million for the upcoming season.  They did impose a floor too, $40 million.  The object was to keep things competitive.  Not so says some cities....  there are teams that are as much as $27 million away from reaching the minimum.  OUCH!!!  My boys are doing pretty good I have to say :)  We are about $9 million below the cap and right around the self imposed cap the front office told us they would follow.  It's ludicrous to just keep spending.  Sure we'd all love that number one player on our team, but at what cost?  Ticket price increase?  I don't think so!

On Friday the front office announced locking up Ryan Miller for a six year extension.   Wuuuuuu Huuuuuu After next season he will be earning about $6.25 million a year.  One of the top paid goalies.  Top goalie?  I'd say above average, but not sure about top 10.  Last year was not a good year.  Lots of changes in the line up in the off season.  On the way back to Buffalo after their first game Ryan found out his cousin had passed away from cancer.  One of the reasons he started The Steadfast Foundation.  I'm hoping that was a fluky year and the previous two are more his game... more the teams game.

It was whispered that Ryan wouldn't sign, but rather wait until the end of next year and test the market.  Get involved in that bidding war process, get way overpaid, and most likely go to Detroit, his hometown.  I inserted the audio version of his interview shortly after the signing.  Hardly seems that is what he was thinking!

I am stoked he is signed, and looking forward to the front office getting Pommer's extended as well.  That would make me happy.  Really happy!  I'd still like a stud defensemen, but signing Rivot for the blueline will be a good addition.  Now... when does the season start?!?!?!  I need a hockey fix!

~ The View ~

            DsDesignsBeautifulView2008.jpg picture by 55hockeyfan

....  and I am not referring to the talk show :)   As I said last night, it was pretty hazy at the lake yesterday.  That, however, did not stop my nieces from sitting on the ledge and looking out at the water.   Listening to the waves lap the shore, see some folks swimming and playing, watching the boats and jet ski's go by.   Deep in thought, in conversation.  I wonder what those whispers would reveal.  The view is beautiful and the smell fabulous.......

DsDesignsCandLBeautiful.jpg picture by 55hockeyfan

Talking about beautiful....   my sisters girls.  Still sitting on the ledge but me at a different angle.  A huge water float behind them.  The one on the left will be the beautiful bride come October and her sister the 'Maid of Honor'....  what an honor it will be.

DsDesignsWalkontheBeach7-19-08.jpg picture by 55hockeyfan

Before dinner some went swimming, some took a walk on the beach.  The most interesting....   and the one that I have permission to post...  this little guy playing...  running and trying to beat the waves as they crashed.

                     DsDesignsBeachFlowers2008.jpg picture by 55hockeyfan

I found these gorgeous flowers off at the edge of the beach.  I have no idea what they are, but it's a perfect backdrop for those bonfires on the beach.  I played around a bit and added texture for a different effect.

Dinner was served and eaten under two huge trees.  Out of the little sun we had and a nice breeze.   It was perfect... for without that breeze we'd have all been in the water!   Our host made the biggest pot of chicken cacciatore and pasta.  I brought a huge chef salad and bread to accompany...    As we ate the rain came.  It was a light drizzle that could only be felt if you walked away from the tables.  The massive limbs of the trees adorned with huge leaves protected us.  We finished eating and cleared the tables.  Just in the nick of time too!   As the rain came a bit harder we packed up our outdoor chairs and bags and headed to her back room.  The entire back of the house is an enclosed porch with windows on all three sides.  We sat and had desserts, yes plural, and coffee.  The rain splashed the windows and rolled endlessly down the glass.  Safe inside we could see the waves get a little larger and the horizon turn dark.

DsDesignsBeautifulSunset7-19-08.jpg picture by 55hockeyfan

The rain did not last to long and when it stopped I went out to get sunset pictures.  In the middle of the yard, and the edge sits a covered gazebo.  Two sides holding benches and the center is large enough for a table if needed.  To the left, the chairs, looking out at the water.  The cushions were safe inside out of the rain.  I just couldn't resist.  How many nights are friends and/or lovers sitting watching the sun go down?

DsDesignsAftertheRain7-19-08.jpg picture by 55hockeyfan

I happened to be in the gazebo at one point, and noticed the sunset reflecting on the railing, the water drops left on the buds, and the painted sky.  What a day..... what a view!

Today will be spent doing nothing!   LOL  it was raining this morning when I got up but the sun has since come out.  It's still overcast but the breeze is wonderful coming in the open windows.   The rain brought in cooler air and it is about 78 degrees.  Perfect for a lazy day of being alone, nothing but quiet....  aaaahhhhhh  Hoping everyone had a great weekend and a restful Sunday...

~ Tired ~

DsDesignsSailboat7-19-08.jpg picture by 55hockeyfan

..... or as my friend would say 'Tarred'...  ::giggle:: she's from Pittsburgh..  and I know some of you know exactly what I am saying...   she also says 'the Stillers'  LOL   Sound familiar to any of you?  Hmmm??

The day was great...  it was warm, a bit humid, and extremely hazy.   The house we were at has this view all day long.  She sits above the lake but also has beach front, you go down about 15 steps to the beach.  It's a fabulous place.   The shore line of lake Erie has a number of bays.  Today in the bay to the right of her they had sailboat races.  As they came out from behind the point you could see them.  It was a distance away, and the haze made the view a little faint, you can barely see where the water ends and the sky begins.  On a clear day the color in those sails would pop!  There really was no 'sun' for the sunset, but the colors and pattern that came thru the clouds was magnificent.  I don't think the picture does it justice...........

DsDesignsSunset7-19-08.jpg picture by 55hockeyfan

The fresh air was fabulous, but right now I am tired... just wanted to share a couple shots.   I will do another entry tomorrow.  I plan on nothing tomorrow... other then waking up :)   Hope you all had a great Saturday!

~ Flippin Old ~

Oh yes, I definitely feel the effects of my age............   Yesterday was a grand day.  I got to work before 8:30 am and for being a half day it was the longest day of the week!!   I thought noon would never get there.   On a side note, guess who wore flip flops......... again!?!   Very few people in management were in the office but let me tell you it did not go unnoticed.  :::sigh:::

On to better things......    I left work and picked up my niece and the kids.  Her husband had their car as he waits for the company vehicle he will be getting.  With temps in the 90's I hated to think they were stuck.  I pulled in to her driveway and Gage was out the door in a flash.  Not far behind him 'bug' ran out already in her swimsuit and ready to go.  Arriving at my parents and in a matter of seconds the two of them were in the pool.  What a hoot!   Both diving in and swimming like the guppies they are.  My niece was right behind them wanting to get a swim before she had to go to work.  Me... well I had to go in the house and find my suit and put it on.  How refreshing to change with a/c.  I don't have it at home and let me tell you the sticky feeling of putting on clothes in this heat was not missed!!!

Finally, all of us in the pool splashing and laughing.  Swimming, jumping, and of course diving.  The deep end is about 12 feet.  It's perfect for being silly.  Of course, we regularly remind the kids that all pools are not that deep and caution needs to be taken.  My niece and I got out of the pool to dry off as she had to be to work at 3, and I was driving her.  My younger sister and my brother (cabana boy) took their shift.  My brother has the strength to lift both kids (one at a time) and throw them into the deep end.  They love it, 'bug' more then Gage............

Off to work I took my niece.  I cheated big time.  I throw shorts on over my suit but since I had no intentions of getting out of the car I just went with my bathing suit top as a 'tank-top.'  Got some looks at the stop lights, but with temps in the 90's I did not care.  When I got back it took me only a few seconds to jump back into the pool.  I was in and out but the kids stayed in for hours.  I mean HOURS!  Can you say raisin feet and hands!?!  They got out long enough to eat lunch and dinner and rest a bit to let their meals digest.  You know the 1/2 hour rule, right?  Myth or not, we abide by it.

Mom made goulash for dinner.  Chef salad and bread.  It was yummy and really hit the spot.  Something other then hot dogs, burgers, or chicken.  We can't afford to eat steak every night.......... and the a/c allows her to turn on the oven  LOL   Mike, the kids Dad got out of work and joined us about 5ish.  He giggled as he saw his daughter doing flips.  No fear bug!

It was an extremely long day and I was beat when I got home.  It was off to bed and asleep before the 11 o'clock news.   I'm flippin old!  I remember the day that I could go 24 hours straight...  I'll never see that again!

Today we will be going out to the beach.  There is a reunion of sorts with the folks my sister worked with for years.  You may remember when her and her family stayed at her friends cottage out at the lake last year.  I visited often and shared a few pictures......   the weather then wasn't great but my seeester will be looking down on us today to make sure the day is perfect.  My parents will be driving with us so I doubt it will be a late night but it should be fun.  Batteries are charging as I type so expect... well something.  LOL   The kids won't be there, this is an adult get together.........

Hope everyone is having a great weekend and enjoying some nice weather.

~ Diving In ~

Temps have been in the high 80's - 90's... humidity off and on.  Guess where I've been?  Ohh yeah, at my parents by the pool, and they thought I moved out!  LOL  Stopping on my way home from work and taking a dip has helped beat the heat.  I'm not the only one that has been there either.  Only thing wrong with stopping.....   by the time I finally get home I'm exhausted.  Up before 6 am, out the door before 8 am, and then not home again until after 9 pm makes d one tired girl.  I don't feel it as it's happening, but damn, I've been in bed awful early these days.  Bill.. you'd be proud.  LOL

The last two days have been spent teaching Gage and 'Bug' to dive.  Lots of belly flops, but in the end Gage had great success and finally mastered the art.  He's now moved on to doing flips.  Bug on the other hand, has no fear but is still trying to get it.  She has had success, but more often then not she....

well you'll get the picture.  She hasn't given up though.

With all the visiting and swimming I found myself a bit behind on the tag requests.  I know I have a few to get out yet, and I will get to them.  Promise!   Last night I tried to visit journals but AOL was acting up big time.  I couldn't get journals to open.  They appeared to be open but not one thing was there.  The first couple attempts on one journal had me worried.  I thought AOL ate the entire thing.  Entry link, journal link, and the link in my favorites all produced the same thing.  NOTHING!  Oh wait.... I get the freakin ad and nothing else!!  The next was the same, and then the next.  GRRRRRRRR  definitely a glitch...  I was too tired to fight it so I just logged off and went to bed.  I will be by tho...

I'm taking a half day today.  Once again it will be in the  90's.. they are warning us again on the air quality.  No worries, my suit is still at my parent's from last night and I will be there in time for lunch.  Oh they joy, eh?  Not only do they get to feed me dinner, today they get lunch too.  LMAO!!  Good thing they love me :)

I hope everyone is having a great week and finding a way to beat the heat in your neck of the woods.

~ Good Mornin ~

      DsDesignsFlowerRain.gif picture by 55hockeyfan

It might well be afternoon by the time I get this posted or you get to read it... so a 'good afternoon' is in order as well :)  It's a chilly rainy start to the day.  One of those 'go crawl back in bed with a good book' days.  Instead I played with some pictures I took of the flowers from my sisters memorial mass a while back.  Each bloom brings a different flower, a different beauty.  I have shots of most of them and I think I will print them out and give them to my parents.  Such beauty and a perfect way to remember.   Having them framed and hung in their house....  The other day I caught the bee hovering above.  It's not the best shot, but I like it :)

Last night when I got home from my parents I played with a new sidebar graphic.  I adored the little fishy ribbons and wanted to use them.  I played with the walking sand effect, and tho it is not perfect I made a tag this morning using one of my own pictures.  I will offer it up later............

I hope everyone has a great Sunday... maybe the weather is better in your neck of the woods.

Hugs

~ Don't Bug Me ~

         DsDesignsDontBugMe.jpg picture by 55hockeyfan

ROFLMAO!!  This is a picture I took when I was visiting my friend in Rochester.  As we sat on her front porch enjoying our morning coffee this critter landed on my lap.  I, of course, grabbed my camera and took a shot as my friend squealed, 'hurry before he gets any higher.'  Boy the fibers of my shorts look wild don't they?   I was planning an entry this morning and framed the picture, but with temps in the high 80's before lunch it was off to my parent's before I could get the entry in.  As we sat on the back patio laughing and telling stories, my older brother said he had stopped by my journal today.  He wanted to 'see' what was going on.  He was stunned when my last entry was Wed.  'I figured you were doing laundry'  LOL  ::smack::  I was stunned too.  I really didn't have anything to say or share, and I have been in a don't bug me mood, but I didn't even realize it had been so long.

The weather changed from hot and dry to hot and humid.  My sinuses have been acting up and my head pounds.  The nasal drip kills my throat and makes my tummy feel like it's doing the tango.  Not a pretty feeling and makes me miserable.  I am sure going in and out of the air conditioning doesn't help matters much.  Pressure, no pressure, massive pressure, no pressure.  Hardly know if I'm coming or going.  Not sure why this year is so bad, but it is.  I need to find the perfect over the counter med to balance things out.

Work has been work.  An email came out announcing some of the changes, and we've been told some of the future changes but things are not all worked out so until then I won't be saying anything.  I have had several folks come up to me with questions, and some that wanted to confirm what others had said.  Most wrong, it's funny how some construe their own meaning of things to make themselves appear better.  ARGH!   But again until the official announcement........  don't bug me.

We have a dress code at work.  Flip flops are not allowed.  Flat shoes, with the thongy thing between the toes.  You know what they are...  rubber, leather, fancy little beads, cloth.  Clearly flip flops and not slides.  In the beginning of the warm weather an email came out clearly defining what was not allowed.  Tank tops, spaghetti strapped tops, skirts (shorts on Fridays) higher then 3 inches from the knee.  It amazes me what has happened in the past few weeks.  First a girl had flip flop sandals on.  They were leather, but fit the criteria.  A manager said something and this person snapped.  'They are not flip flops.'  She tried to explain it away.  The manager, who is not hers, ended up walking away.  Ok, the employee got the drift.  NO!   A couple days later she wore another pair.  Then a few days after that in our department she came in to the conference room in a mood.  She sat down or should I say plopped down.  Put her foot on the table and said, 'yes, they're flip flops I guess, send me home.  Today would be perfect the day.'  I was stunned and a bit pissed off at the disrespect for our boss.  On Friday once again she had flip flops on.  No question about them.  Rubber soles, cloth, and definitely something you'd wear on the beach.  Several folks questioned it.  I personally don't care what anyone wears, but to show such blatant disrespect pissed me off.  Obviously nothing has happened all the other times she wore them so she is pushing things to the limit.  How much you want to bet someone else pulls the stunt and gets sent home to change, or without pay?   I left early on Friday so I am not sure if anything was done or said, but I sure had folks talking about it.  Don't bug me...  go to higher management if you have an issue with it.  Personally I think she wants to be sent home, or fired.  Doesn't make sense to me.

Wow..  longer entry then I thought.  See what happens when I start to type?  LOL   Hope everyone is doing good and having a great weekend!  With the exception of my sinuses I've been good.  If the rain stays away no doubt I will be at my parents again tomorrow.  Glad they love me :)

~ Five Year Tag ~

                                                  jland5.gif picture by 55hockeyfan

Evening folks!   I hope this finds you well.  I know the AOL Journal Community is coming up on the 5 year anniversary.  Guido made mention of it in his journal a few days.. or maybe weeks ago.  Anyway, he was hoping a graphic would be done.  Now I did NOT make this graphic, it's been around forever.  All I did was edit the existing one and change it to 'five years', just like I did last year to make it four years.  Apparently the person who made it to begin with is no longer with AOL, or I think that is what Joe said....  but hey I'm old and can't remember.   Feel free to take it and add it to your journal if you wish.
