~ Frightful ~

DsDesigns1-30-08.jpg picture by 55hockeyfan

This is what the front of my house looked like when I got home from work this evening.  It was much different when I left this morning.   You could barely see the house at all.  Late last night the storm hit our area.  The wind was blowing at about 40 MPH with gusts as high as 80 MPH.  Snow was falling along with trees and power lines.  I was safe and did drive into work just taking my time.   The scene was unbelievable.  Street lights were swaying in the wind, some worked some didn't.  I was amazed at how many folks out there driving do not realize that when the light is out at an intersection it should be treated as a 4-way stop.  Do you know how many accidents I saw because folks just gave themselves the right away?  GRRRR   As I was driving on the highway my car got pelted by garbage flying around.  It was even hit by roof shingles.  I saw it coming and thought it was cardboard or something of that nature until it hit my windshield.  Scared the shit out of me!  No damage, but amazing the wind was strong enough to toss it around like paper.   The news was showing the ice coming in to shore off the lake.  As the storm came across it actually pushed the water to this end.  Toledo etc, must have had a huge beach front today since the water was here.  At work I was standing in the front foyer talking to a co-worker and we watched as a freezer door blew down Main St.  Amazing!  There are still folks in the area without power.  Thankfully I am not one of them.  Between the wind blowing the snow around as it fell and picking up what was already on the ground I had window treatments on the outside.  Thought it looked pretty cool.   The wind is still howling and they are calling for more snow this evening.   Hopefully the accumulation will be kept to a minimal.

My boys have been in Florida the past two days.  Playing the Lightening and the Panthers.  Hehehe.. winning both.  They still have some ground to make up to get into the playoff hunt, but stringing several wins together is helping.  This is the third win in a row.  I'm hoping they can keep building on that.

Hope everyone is safe and warm and had a great day!

Hugs

We were part of that nasty blizzard sliding through the country too. Get this....on Tuesday, it was 52 degrees and almost all the snow was gone, today...it is 7 degrees actual, and 18 below wind chill!! First we had massive thunderstorms last night with wind that I seriously thought was going to take the roof off. Then we got 8 inches of blowing & drifting snow, and had flash freezing rain for about two hours this morning, so everything wass like an ice rink. NASTY!!!! It's supposed to calm down tomorrow and start back up over the weekend. UGH!
Stay warm & inside :)

Pooh Hugs,
Linda

Yikes!  What weather!
We got the wind gusts all night long, but otherwise, it was relatively mild here, albeit cold.

Autumn wouldn't sleep last night because she kept hearing the wind pounding our house and she thought 'cars' were trying to get in her window.  :(
We let her sleep with us.  I felt so bad for her.  She was really scared.

Anyway...here's to better weather, eh?  :)

XOXO,
bridgett

Stay safe Donna if you're out today.
We haven't had snow yet, although it has been forcast.  Torrential rain and very very windy here at the moment.  I was completely drenched just walking from the car to the house after dropping Adam off at school this morning.
Have a good day though.

So glad you got home safe from the storm it sounds terrible.  It is very interesting how the snow caked on your window, leaving like an abstract and  enough room for you to peak out.  Congratulations to your boys on their win streak, sincerely hope they continue to do well.  Take care out there tomorrow on the way to work.  Sad so many are without power hope it is restored soon.  We are expecting a really bad storm also starting tomorrow morning, not sure what we will be getting hit with hope it is not bas bad as Buffalo's.  Take care.

great photo....we had the same exact wind and storm. I got off work at 3AM and the entire west end of my city was pitch black....power was gone.....the businesses and gas stations and street lights and everything was black. Eerie as hell. Thank God a million times my home had power and heat. That wind almost killed me, I SWEAR, as we did the cart party. What have i ever done to deserve this cart party horror and constant skin issues. PHOOEY.

I love how you describe your weather.
love you SO,
lj

Good to see you survived the storm.  I'll be posting my videos on my blog later today.  First the power was out and the annoying cat woke me at 5:45 which was a good thing since I had to be at BGH at 7.  It was hairy driving downtown.  Then I had to drive back and there was a semi overturned on one of the off-ramps.  I lost visibility getting close to my house.  The power was back on but THEN I had to make the hours' drive to my out of town rotation and all the truckers were on the road trying to make up for not driving during the day... fun fun fun... still not as cold as Minnesota... :D

Wow, look at the snow you have on the house!!  It looks beautiful!  When you mentioned Toledo I thought I'd mention I have a sister in Amherst, OH.  Just like Teri in KY, I'm here in KY too and they had us under winter storm advisory until noon today.  The winds here howled on and off all day at up to 30mph on and off.  It was downright eerie.  Not much snow though yet.  We warm enough to melt what little we got as it came down.  That would have been something to see a freezer door go blowing around!!!  Frightening to anyone in its path.
