~ Little Pecker ~

DsDesignsWoodpeckerSquirel.jpg picture by 55hockeyfan

Ok, by show of hands.. or comments.. how many came to the entry because they had 'piggie' thoughts?  LOL  You'll be disappointed.  It's just pictures of a woodpecker at the feeder.  He moved rather quickly picking and pecking the seeds, so I didn't get the clearest shot.  I will keep trying as he came back a few times.   One time while he was there, he was scared off by a little larger 'pecker'.  Pissed me off, but I knew it was only a matter of time.  To hell with the globe cover, it only protects the feed from the rain, not the squirrels.  As you can tell this critter hung from the branch and stretched out to reach the seed, then hung upside down to eat.  I took a few shots then scared him off.  He was back several times too!    GRRRRRR  Oh and V... yes, there are squirrels here.  LMAO

Early last evening I tried a few times to get the woodpecker and have it be a bit clearer.   As I stood at my window with only my lens sticking out I heard, 'excuse me, hello.'  It was my neighbor to the right.  I was a bit embarrassed as I wondered if she thought I was a peeping Tom, even with no houses to the back of me.  They moved in about 6-7 years ago.  I see her husband all the time.  We wave and make small talk.   I can count how many times I've seen her.   We are on different time schedules and with our backyards at different levels and a wooden privacy fence in between, we don't see each other while out back.   I put my camera down and responded to her.  'You might think me weird, but are you a 'insert my last name'  I smile and say yes.  Very intrigued she goes on to tell me she knows my sister.  She tells me her first name and I immediately knew her.  She was surprised I knew her last name.  I told her I'd come out, and I met her in front.  We laughed and chuckled over memories.  She and my sister were very good friends.  She was shocked to learn my sisterlived with me.  Her older sister was a monitor at my high school.  She would stand in the ladies room to keep the girls from smoking.  Low and behold she lived in the small apartment on the second floor of her house, right next door!   My sister and I went over and spent the evening on their back patio remembering and getting caught up.  What a small world!!!  All this time and we never knew.

Today was a bizarre day weather wise.  Storms and rain blew in and out.  The local news showed some beautiful double rainbows, but I wasn't lucky enough to see.  I went out a few times, not the right ones obviously.   Things have calmed down and they are saying it will be a fairly nice day tomorrow.   I hope so!!!    Hope everyone had a great Saturday....  and I wish you a fabulous Sunday.

Hugs

~d

It seems to be such a tiny world at times..lol an old school friend and I worked about 200 yards from each other for over four years and didn't realise until I left to work somewhere else. great shots as usual.

Have a good sunday

I wondered if you thought that globe was going to keep the squirrels out...NOT.  I tried everything when I had so many feeders at the house.  The only thing that worked was a feeder on an isolated (fairly tall) pole that I wrapped a slinky around.  They would get so far and grab the slinky and down they went...lol.  Very funny to watch.  How nice about your neighbor...small, small world.

Love the bird pictures you are sending--its nice to see what you have in your backyard. I had to laugh at the squirrel- they sure can be cute but a pain in the butt when it comes to bird feeders--they can do amazing things to reach a bird feeder. And warning, they also like plant bulbs. Ive seen just a few woodpeckers here-mostly in wooded areas but I love watching them with their little red heads and they really can climb up tree trunks.
That was so cool about your neighbor and you are right what a small world. Im glad you got a chance to sit and relax and talk.....hope you have a great weekend--hugs and love-Carolina

OK, I admit, I am a degenerate LOL.  I saw the pecker thought and I got excited.  That is what a few drinks will do to me so I can say that I am not in control of myself right now.  LOL  JK  You are funny girlie girl.  Hope you have a happy Sunday.  Luv ya!

Great shots....love it. (still haven't taken any wildlife photos yet - and don't be surprised by that ok).

Funny how things like that happen. Friday in the shop a girl I graduated H.S. with came in with her husband to buy a motorcycle. I was like Hey....Claudia .... - what are you doing down here? Well she has been here for 17 years, she came a few years after school to take care of her mom and has been here ever since.

Love to you on this beautiful Sunday...maybe today you will get that shot of the "little pecker" hehe
