Well, Miro Satan is free to go where he wants. The Buffalo Sabre's announced today that they would not be making him a qualifying offer. Apparently management feels they have enough offensive power and need to build on defense. Zhitnik had stated he would like to test the free market, and not sure with the new CBA and salary cap if it will be what he thought. Regier has stated he will be contacting Z's agent as soon as free agency begins. I have mixed emotions about both. On one hand I'm ready for change and to move forward, but on the other hand change is hard to accept and can be scary.
The Sabre's did retain the rights of goaltender Martin Biron, right wings Maxim Afinogenov, J.P. Dumont, Mike Grier and Ales Kotalik, centers Daniel Briere and Tim Connolly, defensemen Brian Campbell, Jeff Jillson, Jay McKee and Henrik Tallinder, and left wings Jochen Hecht and Taylor Pyatt by making qualifying offers to each.
Local boys makes good. Drafted by the Washington Capitals and then traded to Buffalo was Tim Kennedy. Growing up in South Buffalo, Tim grew up a Sabre's fan. In the seventh round the Sabre's picked East Amherst native Andrew Orpik.
