So he's not on the feeder, but he's in the same tree.   LOL  I don't think he wanted to go in the feeder with the yellow finch.   I guess the birds found the feeder, eh?  I'm going to have to get a bird book so I know what I'm looking at.   Think I'm getting ahead of myself here?   All I know is I am going to love this!  When it's a bit warmer at night sitting out back will be such a treat.

~ JLand Photo Shoot #133 - Spring ~

~ Gone Fishing ~

aaaahhhh a little break from hockey tonite.  I will bet I get to bed a fairly decent hour.  LOL  Thanks to all who made picks in the poll.  I appreciate you all being silly right along with me. 

 

Yesterday when I got home from work my sister and I decided to go get a bird feeder.  Ya know, fishing for birds.  I swear the birds have all scattered since I got my lens.  I kid you not!!!  Anyway we went and found some gorgeous feeders.  I almost fell over when I found the one I loved and it was $100.  Ummmm  I don't think so.  So we found something a bit cheaper that would do the trick.  I will probably go and get a little different one too.  I'm told Cardinals probably won't come to the one I have.  Supposedly they are a bit skiddish and if it moves beneath them they will go away.   We'll see.  I think I have manly Cardinals, not some sissies!  :) 

 

Before we left the house we decided rather quickly to grab a bit to eat at a little hot dog stand on the lake.  I quickly grabbed my camera as it was.  I didn't grab my bag, just the camera with the lens already on.  We got to the lake and ate some really good greasy/messy burgers and curly fries.  It was out of this world!!  I don't normally eat like that but damn it tasted good. 

 

As we walked back to the car I noticed two guys in the water fishing.  It's been warm, but that made me shiver.  They were a ways from me but I thought it would be a good test with my lens.  I got it out of the car and took a shot.  I purposely left the 'mess' in the forefront.  It's the left over from the winter storms washing things into shore.  It won't be long and folks will have cleaned up.  Stacked in a pile for summer night bon fires.  I turned the other way to get a shot of the skyline.  The electric wind mills high in the air in front of the city.  I took one shot and my camera beeped.  Oh great... dead batteries and my spare ones are in my bag at the house.  Just my luck!!  GRRR  That'll teach me to leave the house without the camera bag!   So a bit disappointed in myself we came home and put the bird feeder up.

 

It hangs from a tree directly out my bathroom window, mid way through my yard.  Easy enough to pop open the screen and get shots in the early morning.   It will probably take a bit to get the birds to find it.  I teased last night and said I'd get home from work today and the food would be gone and I'd still have no birds.   :::giggle:::  I was luckier then that, there was still food.

 

Nothing else is happening really.  It's hump day, YEAH!!  I took a 2 hour pass on Friday.  Oh, I love those passes!!!  No plans, just getting out of work.  It's been nuts there and I've been working way to hard.  :)   Hope everyone is doing great.

~ Round Two ~

  

Round two is right around the corner, it starts Thursday.  No rest for the weary as some teams played last night.  The response for round one was fabulous.  Lets keep it up for round two... even if your team isn't in it.   The playoffs start with about half the leagues teams playing for the prize it dwindles until one is standing.   Spread the word and get the poll going. 

 

Remember, you don't have to know the team, or game.  Just pick a city of your choice if you want.  Pick one in each poll and have some fun.  Feel free to leave your picks in comments if you want or tell me how you did in the first round.

~ Evening ~

Hello, hello, hello.  I can't believe the weekend is over and the work week once again starts tomorrow.   I hope the weather holds on...  tho it wasn't anywhere near the mid 80's of yesterday it was still a good day.  

 

The benefit last night was very nice.  Several hundred people showed up and it was nice to see people who had left the company and moved on to other things.  One even came back from Baltimore specifically for our friend.  There were about 150 baskets for the Chinese auction and I was lucky enough to win one.  A smaller basket filled with lotions and body soap.  LOL  I will be giving it to my sons girlfriend.  I actually put tickets in for her :)  For those that don't know about a Chinese auction, it is a great money maker if you have a benefit.  Folks donate baskets.  Could be filled with anything, and can be any size.  The baskets last night probably ranged from$10-$15 to over $100.  You sell tickets, the buyer keeps one half and the other half goes into the bin for the basket of your choice.  The tickets then just get picked... if your number matches, bingo you win the prize.   I'm thinking they made a good chunk of money to help with the soaring bills, and that is what it's all about.  She was able to make it... looked good.  Tired, but good.

 

I used a scrap kit on the above tag.  Feel free to snag it.  I saw it, and thought it was so damn cute.  All digital scrap kits I've come across are compatible with PSP.  I love using Paint Shop Pro for it's versatility.  I can edit and create for my own pictures as well as make tags with or without animation.  For animation I do need another program, but it's perfect for me.   I've seen and heard several folks looking for programs to use with their digital camera's.  I guess it totally depends on what you want to do or accomplish.  I am limitedin my knowledge of other programs and if you can add tubes, embellishments, or scrap designs.  I suggest you ask around and figure out what you want :)  If you have questions on PSP feel free to ask, though I am not the expert I will do my best to answer.

~ Good Morning ~

As I sit here typing the temperature is a balmy 75, the high today is suppose to be in the mid 80's.  The smell of summer is in the air.  My windows are wide open, the birds are chirping, though I don't see them.  LOL  That lens you know!?!  The occasional varoom of a motorcycle as it passes by.   The grass if finally getting green.  A far cry from that in the picture that I took a week or so ago.   I should go back and see what I find in this very spot today.   We'll see if I have time.   I have a few errands to run and then later today I have a benefit to go to for a co-worker.  She had breast cancer a few years ago and it has come back.  Metastasized elsewhere in her body.  So far she is holding her own, but the medical bills are soaring. 

 

It was a pretty busy week at work, and I am thrilled it's the weekend.  The highlight of the week was dinner with my son and his girlfriend on Thursday.  We met at a local place.  One he worked at years ago.  His first job actually, a dishwasher.  LOL  The food is excellent, the atmosphere pleasant, and the price is right!    We sat and talked and laughed.  Belly laughs.  It was awesome and way overdo.  He picked up the tab, and as I saw what he tipped, I told him the waitresses no doubt love when he walks in and most likely fight over his table.  His girlfriend informed me he always tips well.  Makes me proud.  He learned to tip like that from his days at the car wash.  He didn't make minimum wage and those kids depended on tips to get their pay up there, so anytime a tip is in order he makes sure he takes care of them.   Especially if the service is good. 

 

I've had a few emails/comments regarding the games.  My boys are not in it, but I've been watching as much as I can.  It's a best of 7 series so only a few are done.  I've listed where teams stand as of now so you can see how you are doing.  When the series is over I will post another poll for the next round, be ready!!!!

~ Got It ~

   

Today was fabulous and has me thinking spring is actually here.  It was still a bit chilly with the wind coming off the lake, but the sky was blue and the sun was out all day.  They are calling for 72 by Thursday  ::doing a happy dance::  Yeah yeah, I know some of you call that chilly.  I call it perfect for an April day!!

 

On the way home from work the moon was overhead.  It looked so large and clear against the blue sky.  I got my things in the house and went back out to get a shot.  It isn't perfect, but at least it's only one.  LMAO!!!   On a few of the shots I moved and I had a couple of them :)~   The other day I grabbed a shot of the trees across the street with the cloud in the background.  I thought it looked unique, fake almost.  The sad part is the broken limbs on the tree.  :::heavy sigh::: left over from our storm a couple years ago.  Once the leaves come out you'll hardly notice, but with bare branches a lot of the trees have a 'spooky' look.  You can see it in the sunset shot from this evening as well.  I just loved the yellows, oranges, and reds.  No sun, just color.

 

 

Well, once again I'm up late.  I have had hockey on and it seems to make my evenings just fly by.  I hate to go to bed before the game is over, but EEEEEEEEKKKKKKK  I have to!  LOL

~ Good Mornin ~

Hope everyone had a nice start to the week.  You all know I hate Monday's, but all in all it was ok.  They haven't been 'bad' I just hate having to get back into the grind of work.  Oh how I wish I was made of money.  LOL

 

This is a picture I took a few days ago.  It was actually used in one of my collages, but I had to show it by itself, a little larger.   I was thrilled with the detail that came through.   Streams of light in the rippled water as it flows over the rock.  The distinct lines of the waterfall, and the bubbles as it hits the water below.  Now if the water was a clear blue instead of green it would be perfect.  LOL  

 

I wanted to do a quick entry to thank all of you that went by Ste's journal. (I will get the tags done tonight)  I appreciate it, and I know he does.  The response has been great.   Should be a great video when it's complete.   Just what JLand needs... some fun and happy things.   So much pain and sadness around these days.  Thanks Ste for taking this project on!!

~ Perfect Day ~

Before I get into my day, I want to tell you about a little project Ste has in mind.  I know you all remember Ste.  If you don't remember, or have never stopped by, please do, you won't be sorry.   He is looking for JLanders to help him out.  I thought it was great idea.  We need some spice, some fun, some happiness.  Being the creative soul he is I think he found something, better yet I know he has!  I will let him explain......

 

My day was not completely perfect.  I woke up to snow flakes falling and a trail of white on the grass.   I know I groaned right out loud.   Before I could finish my first cup of coffee it had stopped and what was on the ground had melted.  YEAH!!   The sun came out and it looked like the day was going to be gorgeous.  A bit chilly but gorgeous.   About 45 minutes later it hit.  I laughed right out loud.   Though my dad is doing great, he really isn't driving.  My mother has been doing all that work :)  A little secret about my mother.  She will not drive in snow.  Never has, and I know never will.   Today there was a mass for my sister at a church near their home.   Pat, knowing that if my mom didn't get there she would be upset, did her magic and had the snow stop.  I just know it was her!  The mass was very nice.  Family and a few friends were there.  I cried of course.  I tried so hard not to, but the tears welled up and ran down my cheeks.  I miss her more then I could ever put into words. 

 

I got some pictures today and it made me happy.  Signs of spring!!  A robin on my front lawn, buds in the trees, and looky here a budding flower of some sort in the garden.  LOL  I have no idea what it is.  We'll have to wait until it blooms. 

 

Yesterday I did pretty good on my shopping trip.  I got two new outfits.   I really wanted a couple pair of pants, and I did just a bit better.  That with what I have may just carry me thru until I can wear my Capri's.  Lets hope so.

~ Black Bird ~

                   

Or is it?  I'm far from a bird watcher, and I really have no idea what this is.  A very large black bird, a crow, a mag pie.  What I do know is there are tons of them by my work.  They are noisy, and somewhat mean to the smaller birds in the area.  They don't hurt them, but as you watch the smaller birds gather twigs and such for their nests these big things swoop in and scare them away.  They are always around.  Doesn't matter the time of day or weather.   Every time I see them I watch and think of this ...................

Today it is in the 40's, it's dark and gloomy but no rain yet.  It did rain throughout the evening and I heard a few booms of thunder.  They are saying the temps will drop again and we have a chance of wet snow.  Oh the joy!  Nothing like a few flakes in April.  NOT!!!

 

I'm off to shop.  For me..  OMG!  Can you believe it?  I hate shopping....  yes a female that hates to shop.   I need new slacks for work.  I have winter ones and summer ones but nothing for in between.  I need something that fits and isn't falling off me.  Wish me luck!!

Good morning!  Yes, I am fine.  Thanks so much asking.  I don't think I've made it clear on what a hockey fanatic I am.   LOL  That is where I've been... watching the tube.  I don't normally watch random shows.  Sure sometimes it's on as background noise if no one is here with me, but during post season I am actually watching.   Call me a freak.  Once the first round gets into a groove I won't be glued to the TV.  I just haven't had the chance to see a lot of the teams play all season so I like to get a 'feel.'  I am ok though so don't worry.  I'll be around... I'll make some leftover time.  ::giggle::

 

Ok, I had to say that.   The top picture is one I took the other day.  The sun was shining and it was in the 60's yet here on the side of the road I found snow tucked away.   It was to far from the road to be from the plow.   It must have been a drift that made it's home near the small hill.   I am pretty sure it's gone now, as it continued to be warm for the days to follow.   Today... not so much.  It's back in the 30's, it's raining, and they are saying it could turn into wet snow.  AARGHH!!!

 

                     

 

I also think all the birds know I got that lens.  Daily there would be birds everywhere in my backyard.  On the fence, in the trees, on the lawn.  Since the lens arrived I've seen very very few.  It's weird.  It also pisses me off!!!   The other night I was out back looking to see if I could see the family of deer from down the street.  A different angle.  They decided not to come for dinner that night, but way off in a tree I found this cardinal.   When I checked it out on the camera I wasn't thrilled.  Way to far away.   The sun was going down and in the wrong spot.  Yet, when I got it on the computer I kind of liked it.  Just the tint of reddish color.  Now I just hope they come closer again. 

 

Well it's Friday YEAH!!!!   I'm tired and looking for the week to be over.  Yes Bill, I've been up late.  Those west coast games ya know!?!   Off to get ready for work.... hope everyone has a great day.   And again, thanks so much for asking about me.

~ Messing Around ~

      

I can't believe today just flew by.  Not while I was at work mind you.  There it always seems to drag.  At least part of the day.  Not that it's bad, or not that it was bad today, but it's work.  It drags!   I got home and did  a bit of this and that.  Got tags out.  YEAH!  I'm current.  Felt like it took forever to do them tonight.  I think it's because I was multi-tasking.  I tried to get a picture of the moon this evening but I had no success at all.  It's just a sliver and each shot either came out to light or the entire moon showed.  Hmmm  Gonna have to play with the settings some more. 

 

I did mess with some of my pictures.   I don't normally offer my personal pictures as snags, but messed with this one a little and thought I'd offer it up as just such.  Let me know what ya think and if you grab it..... couldja?  I hardly do snags anymore.  Maybe I should eh?  I remember a time when I would have several in one entry.  Just seems I never have time anymore.   :::sigh:::

~ Day is Done ~

Or almost.  I had a great day today, and I did accomplish some things.  Your normal domestic stuff.  All laundry is folded and put away.  I got some grocery shopping done.  Cooked a pretty good dinner and had strawberry rhubarb pie with vanilla ice cream for dessert.  No I did NOT bake the pie.  I cheated.  It was yummy just the same.

 

The day was gorgeous so I did take a ride with my trusty camera looking for something.   I had the windows open and I played my Ste CD on what some might consider an illegal volume.  Ok, not just Ste but a few more of my favorites.  I was just singing along, bopping around, and enjoying the wonderful weather.   I found a different spot and was very happy with the pictures I got.  I was actually on a bridge looking down on the creek and a very old bridge that is not used any longer.  I think it might have been a railroad bridge, but to be honest I could not tell from where I stood.  I just shot away. 

 

I want to thank those of you who played along on the NHL Hockey Polls.  It's just for fun, you know... shits and giggles.   Hope everyone had a great day.... and wonderful weekend.  Hard to believe it's over and back to work tomorrow.  I would much rather play with my camera and pictures....  tho I'm sure you are pretty bored at this point....  sorry.

~ Just Do It - No Excuses ~

Now, I don't want to hear any 'I don't know the game', 'I have no clue', and I sure as hell don't want you to stamp my super duper tracker that you were here and didn't leave your mark.  Just Do It!!   LOL

 

         

 

The playoffs start Wed.  Best of seven.  Winner moves on to the next round.  Eight games in total.  East plays east until there is one standing.  West plays west until one is standing.  Then East plays West for the coveted prize.

 

Pick a team in each poll.  Write 'em down if you want to see how you did.  Go by color, city, pick all the top ones in each poll, all the bottom ones, alternate... your choice...  even ask for help.  Just do it :)~

~ Good Afternoon ~

This was suppose to be a morning entry but I got pulled in a few different directions.  All good, no worries.   A couple more pictures from my outing at the botanical gardens.  Upon entering and following the path to the right I was greeted by this wonderful waterfall.  How I wish I had shorts, a t-shirt, and flip flops on.  The warmth made me want to sit and relax.  The sound of the water falling, bouncing off the 'stone' frame, and landing in the pool at it's base was relaxing and refreshing.  Comforting and soothing.  Oh how I wish!!

 

At the end of my journey through the gardens I was looking at the display of all the spring flowers.  The smell engulfed me.  I was alone with my thoughts.  Then I heard, 'Carly.'  When I turned and looked Carly came running to me.  She was soft and fluffy with the exception of having some water droplets on her from running through the rain.  I tried to get a few shots but she was always close to her 'master'.   She was examining the flowers and I called her name.  OMG!  She looked.  Snap!  I was able to get rid of her master from the photo.  The more I looked the more I wished I had this shot for Easter, but alas too late.  Spring works though, don't you think?  :::giggle:::

 

 

Well, I've been in front of this box for much longer then I wanted this morning.  I'm off to get something done.  Anything.  Enjoy your day and with any luck I will get something accomplished today.

~ And another ~

Can you tell I had fun yesterday while at the botanical gardens?  The flowers inside and the birds outside in the rain.  Makes me feel like spring is here... and of course that puts me in a great mood!  I loved the shots of the mallard.  The beads of water from the rain laying on the feathers and his beak hidden under his wing.  I love it!

 

So the boys are done.  They won their last game tonight 3-0.  The backup goalie played and I know it's only a matter of time before folks start screaming that he should have played earlier.  I don't agree.  It was a low pressure game and much easier to play......... ya know?   Tep played tonight too.  The first game this season.  You may remember he had open heart surgery in the beginning of the season.   He's worked hard the last few weeks to get into a game so I'm glad he was able to do it.  That kind of passion is hard for me to get.  It's his heart for cripes sake.   Not only that they spread his sternum apart.   With each hit he took, I cringed.  He did an interview after the game and said it felt great.  Good for him!!   Be ready for the polls to come out  LMAO... start picking colors and cities.  As soon as the seeding is in place I will post who plays who.

~ This and That ~

        

A couple more shots from yesterday.  I even 'tubed' one of the flowers to use an accent on the first one.  What is tube you ask?  It's when you remove backgrounds, or portions of a picture to give you a transparent background so you can lay it on top of another graphic.... or not.   I got so many pictures I sit and look, scratching my head wondering what next?  :)

 

 

Today is/was a pretty good day.  I had to go out this morning to get my haircut.  Just a trim mind you.  I thought I'd go looking for more pictures after but I left with a headache.  I think it was mixed smells of perm solution and dye.  Or.. maybe it was because I was hungry.  I came home instead.  Ate a bite and went and laid down.  I hated to do it on such a nice day, but I feared if I didn't it would blow into a migraine.   Now I'm in the midst of laundry.  GRRRRRRRR  the whole day is out of whack!   Oh well, tomorrow is another day.  So far the forecast has been right........................

 

I had two interesting things happen today.  This is not a rant, nor am I upset or angry.  Actually both made me laugh.   First, some of you might already know that I was Guest Editor this week.  It's an awesome honor and a wonderful way to spotlight journals.  Our community.  A way to bring us together and show us different sides of JLand.  Well, I'm not sure if I pissed folks off 'cuz I didn't pick them, or if this is just another tactic of my infamous troll who has been striking sporadically lately.  I'm thinking it's the later.  Or at least I would hope so.  'I don't know any of the journals you picked.  Surely you could do a better job!'   Well, duh!  Did you read my entry?????  I'd have loved to pick 100's of journals.  So many are worthy, but you can't.  You give exposure to what might be 'new' to others.   Anyone could pick the top journals, the most read, but then what does that do?  I made an effort to try and share some journals I read or check out that didn't fall on the most commented page every day/week.  I didn't even succeed there as many comments say they already view those journals.  LOL   Go get a life of your own and stop following mine, will ya?

 

What else?  Well I was contacted by two license guilds recently.  Apparently every graphic I've done over the course of the past few weeks was reported.  Both guilds told me they actually find the reports humorous.  As you know I am pretty damn careful these days and I do display my license information on tags, and after several visits to my journal over the past several months they now come to look at my work, not for violations.  Both complimented me on my work and offered some wonderful comments about my photography.  They let me know they have record of what I purchase etc, and it is evident someone is just 'out to get me'.   Tooo freaking funny!  Well, actually it's not as not only is this person attempting to discredit me they are wasting valuable time for others.   What a sad life!

 

Off to switch loads and get some of the requests out.  I do hope everyone had/is having a wonderful Saturday!
