~ Spectacular ~

DsDesignsNiagaraFalls.jpg picture by 55hockeyfan

The day started out overcast and gloomy.  I was disappointed thinking we were going to have a rerun of yesterday, but my luck turned.  About 11ish the sun came out the temps soared.  It was off on a short ride to one of the wonders of the world.  Spectacular doesn't quite fit, but it was all I could think of.  Do you have a word to describe this?  Please share it........

I took a ton of pictures and video's but won't bore you with them all.  The ones I've chosen will no doubt wear thin on you as it is, and I swear are not real long.  I only talk in a few as I wanted you to hear the sound of the rushing water.  We stayed on the American side, and it was a good thing.  We had a clear shot of both bridges and they were mobbed and moving really slow.  It would have taken hours to get across.

I tried to get a good glimpse of the beauty and power.  What you see across the river is Canada and it's many hotels and a few casino's.   Getting video while on the Maid of the Mist proved to be difficult.  I had taken a plastic bag with me and did get a few shots that way, but the water and mist that gets blown at you as you pass by quickly shot that idea all to hell.  I couldn't avoid getting other passengers, so just ignore them.  LOL  They didn't seem to care when they walked in front of me when they knew exactly what I was doing... soooo..........  :)~  The smaller section of the falls is known as the bridal veil and they have tours up steps along side.  The yellow you see are folks wearing rain slickers.  Gives you an idea of how large and high the falls really is.   The rocks at the bottom of the American side is what fell from the brink.  Several years back they did divert the water from going over in attempt to clean it up.   Can you imagine no water?  Needless to say it was way to expensive and they scrapped the idea.

The Maid of the Mist cruises along side the American Falls and then sits at the bottom of the Canadian side.  The last falls video shows a clear drop.  This is generally where the daredevils make their attempt.  Can you say freakin nuts???  There have been survivors and then folks not so lucky.  Once a boat in distress up river broke apart.  A seven year old boy was washed over the falls in nothing but a life jacket and swimming trunks.  The Maid picked him up, alive.  Unbelievable!!

So there you have it.  My spectacular day at Niagara Falls...................  Your word is?

I love Niagara.  I have a couple weeks off coming up and I'm trying to decide between taking princess to Niagara and Mt Rushmore.  Do Niagara now while I can still travel to the Canadian (and better) with just our birth certificates?  Or do Mt. Rushmore which I have never seen?  Such decisions!  I'm glad you enjoyed it, though.  It is tremendous, isn't it?

Wow!   I'm so jealous!   I'd love to be able to see that up close and personal one day.   Thanks for this one...loved it.

Wow, that was great!  Thank you for sharing. Felt like a mini-virtual vaca. I would have been freaking out if I had been that little boy's mom, glad to hear he's OK.  I do a lot of extreme type stuff, but I wouldn't jump off.

Don't have a word that comes to mind, yours; "spectacular" seems fitting.

I have had the honour of seeing Niagra falls twice. It's a natural wonder of the world. I have to say, the best time I loved it was when nature is at its cruelest and she froze it solid. To see that marvel frozen in time........... Priceless.

Niagara The Wonderfulls,  I was lucky enough to visit them a couple of years ago but only saw them from the Canadian side and from the Skylon Tower. This bought back many memories of the power of the water, and the noise. You had better weather when we went it was rainy and in a lot of my photos you have difficulty in seeing where the sky ends and the water begins. Here in England we have many beautifull waterfalls but none to match these. Thanks for sharing, Love Pat x

Is it possible to feel "homesick" for a place one has never lived? Niagara Falls is one of my very favorite places in this beautiful country!  It's been several years since we've visited there, so I enjoyed your videos and photos immensely.  Thank you for sharing, Donna!

Peace~

Absolutely stunning, Donna. Those videos sure brought back childhood memories of when I saw Niagara Falls (from the Canadian side), in my younger days when my family visited relatives in Ontario, many moons ago. I also remember the Falls in the night time, with the coloured spotlights on them. No wonder many people often come here for their honeymoon. Thanks so much for sharing.
Always, Rose~*

Hey Donna. Niagara Falls is probably just as amazing as you say it is. This is the first time I've ever commented someone's blog, so if I do something wrong, tell me. On another note, those pictures and video clips are soooooo cool. I think that it's cool that you like nature. It's definetely a good thing to see nature up close, not just on television or in a book. Maybe I'll be more like you...

Hi Donna, for me Niagara Falls is one of my favorite places in the world.  I was there yesterday afternoon.  The Canadian side is also very spectacular and you get different angles for pics.  Look at my profile i have some  pics of Niagara Falls on it if u wish to use them please feel free to do so  I can email them to you.  Your  pics are fantastic i love them all.  You really captured the true falls.  A word to describe the falls really could not do it justice it is out of this world.  I would say for me it is a little piece of heaven when my eyes look up one of the Wonders of the World.  I have been to many areas of the falls some most dont venture to and it always captures me.  Niagara on the Lake is another beautiful place.  The white water gorge walk is also beautiful and i have pics of that  I could share with you.  Thank your for your wonderful pics of a place that is truly special in my heart.

I think everybody has used the words I was going to use Donna! It reminds me of Iguassu Falls, I can still hear that rushing water sound in my head! The videos and photos are truly spectacular, it just shows you the forces of nature at their best. Thanks for sharing your day with us. I love Niagra Falls.  My SF is from that area so we used to go quite often.  I haven't been there in many years and my husband has never been.  You've given me a great idea for a get-away.

The first time we went to Niagra Falls, Canada, we parked in a lot across the street from the Falls. We were at least a block away from where the Falls actaully were. I couldn't believe that I was drenched by the time we caught a trolley into town. When we returned, our car was drenched. I have pictures of Eddie swallowed up inside this huge yellow rain slicker. He wasn't 2 yet. And I have photos later, of all three of my kids on the Maid of the Mist, and crawling around in the caves behind Horseshoe Falls. Spectcular. Incredible. Uninmaginable. Nothing really fits. Still this is a site that everyone in this country and Canada should see and appreciate.
