~ I bleed Blue & Gold ~

DsDesigns9-16-07.jpg picture by 55hockeyfan

I woke up this morning to another very chilly day.  The difference today was the sky was bright blue with only a few white clouds.  The crispness in the air gave me added energy, I think.  So I got up and moved.  I called my niece to see what Gage was doing today.  Not a thing!  I asked him out on a date.

'Aunt Donna, is it at the arena?'

'Yes bud, exactly'

'Can we go to Sabre Tooth's house?' (a blow up jump house in concourse)

'Hmmm..  it's only practice bud, I don't think it will be open.'

'That's ok,  I will go.'

So there you have it, it's a date.  My little bud was going to the Sabre's open practice with me.  I picked him up and we headed downtown to the arena.  He chatted the whole way.  What you find out from kids.  LOL  As I drove and answered his questions I remembered all the times we did things together.  Not nearly enough now.  He reminded me of the 'corn man' I bought him.  I had almost forgotten.  Years ago, and I mean years (before his sister was born) we had taken a ride one fall day.  We stopped at a nursery to check things out.  The plan was to buy painted pumpkins, as it was the season.  Instead he found dried Indian corn that had extra's added.  A hat, boots, eyes, and of course a mouth.  He wanted it so bad.  I thought it was as ugly as sin, but for $2 I couldn't say no.  He treasured that thing.  Today he told me the whole story.  What a hoot!!!

We got to the arena and found our seats.  I was amazed at thenumber of folks there.  It wasn't full by any stretch, but it wasn't long ago the Florida Marlins had a whopping 300 people at a regular season baseball game, why bother?  We beat that number today without any doubt and it was a practice in the beginning of the preseason!   Gage loved it.  Ok, so did I!!  We watched them do their work outs, their drills.  He was amazed at how fast they were and how they stayed up.  For a couple million a year, they better!

It was chilly in there!  I know it always is, but today without the warmth of 18,000+ other bodies you felt it.  We sipped on Hot Cocoa and chatted.  I took pictures LOL surprised?  I grabbed one of him, close up or what?  That's what happens when you are sitting right next to someone.  He was so good!  Never asked for a thing.  We sat and watched, talked, and giggled.  We stayed for the first period of the scrimmage they had.  No one scored while we were there, but he had enough.  It was a good couple of hours.

Ok, so I took him to store and bought him a little something.  I couldn't help myself.  While there I also bought my son a T-Shirt.  He knows already so I guess saving it for Christmas won't be an option.  I'm surprised he didn't stop to get it already .

It was pretty much a sports day here.  I came home and watched football.  EEEeeeeewwww the Bills stunk up the joint!  They lost to the Steelers 26-3.  At first I thought they held their own, but then they fell apart.  I know they had a rough week with Everett, but they need to get their act together.  :::sigh:::  I'm not surprised at the loss, I didn't expect a good season this year.

Well, it's a bit late and I should get my fanny to bed.  Hope everyone had a great Sunday!!  I did.. hockey season has started and I bleed Blue & Gold :)

Hugs

It was a weird day for football -- and kinda unsatisfying.  I guess I'm just not in the NFL groove yet.  I had a better time watching college ball yesterday.

I'm enjoying this 'warm up' of yours prior to the full blown games.  It was nice getting to know what such a thoughtful and nice young man your nephew is.
I love those intimate conversations we share with grandchildren or nieces and nephews at times like those.  They appear more grown up than usual.  Don't they?

Dang! You even go to see them PRACTICE???? Do they KNOW about you?  Isn't there such a thing as a team mom? Because you should be it!

LOL, D, the Steelers stunk so bad last year that I have to wonder if the Bills are just a little worse.  My son said they haven't played any tough teams yet so we'll see.  Might have to pull out my Steeler Cheerleader that Missie sent me.  Go Sabres!  Love ya, Chris

You must stop stealing adorable pictures of other people's kids off the Internet & claiming them as family.  Surely, somewhere, there is a 12 step program ;-0. ~Mary

So I'm no better on hockey than you are on baseball, but I understand the excitement. It's cool you spent the day with Gage. This is going to be as important to him as that corn doll was. Good luck on a great season.
